From Cairo: Half-Day Tour of Giza Pyramids & Sphinx
This half-day guided tour from Cairo covers the Giza Plateau — the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the panoramic desert viewpoint — in approximately 4–5 hours with hotel pick-up and drop-off included. Entry tickets and a licensed guide are included. The most focused format for visitors who want to give the plateau their full attention without a museum visit appended — ideal for returning visitors, those who have already seen the Grand Egyptian Museum separately, or anyone who wants to move at a genuinely unhurried pace around the monuments.
Not every Giza visit needs to be extended with a museum. The Giza Plateau itself — the three pyramids, the Sphinx, the causeway, the Queens’ Pyramids, the desert viewpoint — is a full morning in its own right. This focused half-day tour covers the plateau and the Sphinx thoroughly, with a licensed guide and hotel transfers, and returns you to Cairo by early afternoon. It is the right format for visitors who want to spend their time on the monuments rather than rushing between sites, or who are combining the Giza visit with a separately arranged afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum or another Cairo experience.

Book This TourHow the Tour Works
Hotel pick-up (7:30–9:00 AM): Your guide and driver collect you from your Cairo hotel. Most tours offer a flexible pick-up window based on your hotel’s location. An earlier start means a cooler, quieter plateau — arriving at the Giza complex by 8:30 AM puts you there before the first large tour buses.
Giza Plateau (approximately 2.5–3 hours): With no museum appended, the full plateau time is available to the monuments themselves. The guide leads you through the Great Pyramid of Khufu (exterior, entrance area, and the original casing stones at its base), the Pyramid of Khafre (identifiable by the limestone cap at its apex), and the Pyramid of Menkaure — the smallest of the three, flanked by its three satellite Queens’ Pyramids. The guide covers the history and engineering of each structure, the Old Kingdom religious beliefs that drove their construction, and the individual pharaohs buried here.
Great Sphinx and Valley Temple: The Sphinx enclosure is included — the guide leads you to the lower terrace for a close approach to the monument, then to the adjacent Valley Temple of Khafre, one of the best-preserved Old Kingdom temples in Egypt. For everything there is to know about the Sphinx, see our Great Sphinx of Giza guide.
Panoramic desert viewpoint: The guide includes a stop at the southern viewpoint from which all three pyramids align in the iconic row photograph — the most reproduced single image of Giza. Early morning light from the east illuminates this angle particularly well. For the best photography positions across the full plateau, see our best photo spots guide.
Hotel drop-off (approximately 12:00–1:00 PM): The tour returns you to your Cairo hotel by midday, leaving the afternoon free for the Grand Egyptian Museum, Khan El Khalili, or any other Cairo plans.
Who This Tour Is Right For
This focused format works best for visitors who:
- Want to give the Giza Plateau their full, unhurried attention without the time pressure of a museum visit appended to the morning
- Have already visited the Grand Egyptian Museum separately and do not need it repeated
- Are returning visitors to Giza who want a shorter, guide-led refresher rather than the full combination day
- Are combining this with an independently arranged afternoon activity in Cairo
- Prefer a slightly shorter day — the plateau-only format is better suited to visitors who find a 5–6 hour combined tour tiring
For visitors who want both the plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum covered in one morning, see our half-day tour from Cairo: Pyramids, Sphinx & GEM. For a fully private version at your own pace, see our private half-day tour from Cairo with camel ride.
